Living Library Press is pleased to announce their latest elementary living science book: The First Book of the Earth by Irene Sevrey (Mildred Waltrip illustrator, 1958). This introduction to the subject of geology describes the earth from its place in the solar system, its structure, mountain formation, rocks, and minerals, to the activity of volcanoes and earthquakes, glaciers and rivers in composing and shaping its landscape above and structure below. A narrative account rather than a compilation of facts, this is an excellent beginning for the young science student with questions about the ground we live upon. We recommend using Sabbath Mood Homeschool’s Geology Living Science Study Guide with this book for a full term’s worth of experimental science.

What ages is this recommended for and could it be used as a replacement for Madam How and Lady Why?
This is recommended for upper-elementary (grades 4-6) and could be a replacement for a book like MHALW, depending on how you are using that one. The reading level of this book is lower than the Kingsley. We published this book to be the living book that goes along with the Sabbath Mood Homeschool Geology Form 2 Living Science Study Guide which conforms to Charlotte Mason’s principles for elementary science lessons while being a current resource for science teaching.
Are the original pictures included? If so, are they B&W or colored? Thank you!
